Vinnies CEO SleepoutPosted 27th April 2015 by Clare O'Neil in News | 0 Comment
I have signed up for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, sleeping rough to help the homeless on 18 June this year.
This will be my first St Vinnies CEO Sleepout and I am really looking forward to making a contribution towards the campaign against homelessness.
I know that sleeping out for one night won’t really make me appreciate the true sense of homelessness but I know the Sleepout will give me a greater understanding of what homeless people face each night.
It’s common for people to think that all homeless people sleep on the streets, but rough sleeping, is only a small part of the problem of homelessness. Homelessness is about not having a home, which means having a sense of security, stability, privacy, safety and the ability to control your living space.
As the Federal Member for Hotham, I represent the highest rate of homelessness outside of metro Melbourne.
